Line Capacity - This is only an approximation because of differences in line brands. Simply put, it is the amount of line - WF - weight-forward or DT - double taper and backing - 20 lb or 30 LB that a reel may comfortably hold. Obviously, a reel will hold up to 50 yards more backing if a silk line rather than a regular DT plastic line is employed Making Reels - Where do I start? Start by thoroughly studying the type of reel you would like to make. Take measurements of a couple different reels with a caliper accurate to a thousandth to understand the amount of detail involved. This should go a long way in preparing you for design and first prototype of your own reel. Genuine Ivory? . . . is it Legal? In an effort to stay open, museums are selling off odd items including ivory. The good news is that this is very high quality ivory - very dense with consistent color! Prices for reels - How are they priced? Material is secondary (usually). It is the man-hours involved in parts making, and assembly plus the cost of anodizing. Somehow, the years in design and development get forgotten and left out! Reels - How long to wait for a Godfrey Reel? Usually reels are produced in a batch each month per order. Frankly, "it takes as long as it takes". Reel - How long to make a reel? This is a perennial question with no satisfactory answer because there are too many variables and especially because I am always working on more than one type of reel in a monthly batch. Saltwater - are they saltwater proof? The reels are certainly saltwater proof, But they should be thoroughly soaked in tap water and dried-out daily.
