Godfrey Brook Trout Reel

The Heritage -- Francis Philbrook was a very talented tool an die maker who lived in Maine. He took to tackle making and we have him to thank at least in part for the famous Leonard raised pillar reels. His name has been attached to the marbled red and black reels.

The Godfrey Brook Trout Reel is a swirled red/orange and black finish applied to aluminum side plates. The colored materis receives an industrial, high temperature epoxy finish to make the plates both very hard and solvent resistant.

The Heritage Brooktrout Reel

The Godfrey Brooktrout Reel is inspired by the revered Philbrook - Payne mottled reels. But it is modernized with single screw take down and the Westminster type adjustable drag system. This makes for a far more functional and user friendly reel than the traditional design with so many screws to remove and no adjustment mechanism. The obvious uniqueness is of the sides is a "labor of love" and requires a week of work to produce these special sides with the dcharacteristic swirled pattern. The special swirled motif - finish is reminiscent of the original Philbrook design, but is far stronger, and more chemically stable.

Reel Models Notes:

Model 273 and Model 274 are the same diameter with the No 40 somewhat wider that provides capacity for a 4 weight line. The narrower No 35 provides a good size for 3 weight silk or plastic. Lighter weight and smaller size makes for great match for light line midge cane.

The Model 305 is a great reel with spool the same size as the Paradigm Madison reel so it has room for 5 weight plus backing. This is the most popular size for for all around trout fishing anywhere!

The Model 306 is the perfect 5 weight line Reel with added capacity for 100 yds of 20 lb backing.
